On the Lord's Day September 16, 1990, some young Christian brothers and a middle-aged couple began meeting as the church in Dunedin. A Christian sister from Singapore witnessed this and recorded in our visitors' book the following:"The Lord said, 'I will build my church.' Now He has fulfilled his word in Dunedin. Praise the Lord! (First Lord's Table held.)"

We had previously published articles in newspapers regarding the vision of the church. We wanted to let the Christian community know our view, and asked for replies and enquiries. We needed to know if any group of Christians already met as the church in Dunedin. If they did we would have joined them since we only wanted to meet as one in Christ with other believers as the church here; we had no desire to start our own work. Apart from a very few individual enquiries no Christian group contacted us. It was some considerable time later and with the leading and blessing of the Lord that a few of us started meeting as the church in Dunedin. This was according to the New Testament principle of only one church in one city (e.g. Acts 8:1; 13:1; 1 Cor. 1:2; 1 Thes. 1:1; Rev. 1:11 etc.), at the same time recognizing as members of the church all the believers in this city whether they meet with us or not.

By 1991 the number of believers meeting together increased. During the following years many students have been meeting with us. Many of the overseas students already knew and loved the Lord before coming to New Zealand and they have added much to the spiritual reality of the church.

Both the fellowship between the local churches and the visiting of many believers has been such a strength and supply to us - we are so far south! Also we appreciate that so many churches and believers gave financially, making it possible for us to purchase our own meeting hall at 34 Mulford St., Concord, Dunedin. We welcome all enquires and invite all believers in the Lord to meet with us. This is our God-given privilege.

Our weekly meetings include home groups around the city and campus, prayer meetings, and the Lord's day (Sunday) meeting with lunch together once a month. A completely open method of participation is practised; each attendant is welcome to share in each meeting.
